Beans Paruppu Usili recipe is one of the favorite and popular Tambrahm recipes made with just a few simple ingredients. Normally, a small amount of Bengal gram dal is added while making this recipe with toor dal, but I’m not including it because it can disturb older people’s guts and create digestive issues.

Beans-Paruppu-Usili

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Beans
  • 3/4 Cup Toor dal
  • a pinch asafoetida
  • 2 + 2 Red Chilli
  • a pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Wash and soak toor dal for an hour.
  2. Drained dal is added to a blender along with two red chilli, some asafoetida and salt.
  3. Without water, grind it to a fine coarse mixture.
  4. Steam it in a steamer by making small balls for 10 to 12 mins.
  5. Meanwhile, boil & cook chopped beans with little water and keep it ready.
  6. Once the dal is cooked, simply allow it to cool for a while before crumbling it either with a ladle or your hands.
  7. Heat oil in a pan, temper with mustard seeds, add red chilli, curry leaves, then cooked beans and saute for a few minutes.
  8. Add Turmeric powder, salt and just a stir.
  9. Following that, add the cooked, crumbled dal and sauté for 5 to 7 minutes.
  10. Delicious Beans Paruppu Usili is Ready.
  11. Serve with hot rice, vatha kulambu combination.
