Keerai Molagootal Recipe is one of the specialty dishes of Kerala’s Brahmins. Molagootal is a simple recipe prepared with any veggies, such as keerai, cabbage, chenai kilangu, pudalai, etc. Toor dal, coconut masala, and spinach go incredibly well together in this recipe. Although its name could lead us to believe it contains pepper, it actually combines three other ingredients: vegetables, coconut paste and dal.
Ingredients
- 1 Keerai Bunch
- 1/2 Cup Toor dal
- 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp Urad dal
- Oil
To grind
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- 1/2 tsp soaked Raw Rice
- 3 tbsp Grated Coconut
- 2 Red Chilli
Directions
- Check for pests, clean Keerai by discarding roots and leaves.
- Then soak keerai with salt, turmeric water for 5 minutes to remove dirt, then wash keerai two to three times, chop and keep it ready.
- Wash toor dal and cook well.
- Grind cumin seeds, coconut, red chilli and raw rice to a fine paste.
- Cook chopped keerai in a pot till they get cooked well.
- Add mashed toor dal and let it boil for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Then add ground masala and let it cook for another 2 minutes.
- Switch off the Stove.
- Heat oil in a pan, temper with mustard, urad dal and add it to prepared keerai molagootal.
- Delicious and Healthy keerai molagootal is ready to serve with hot rice, Puli Thokku, Thogaiyal, pappad.
