Little Millet Payasam | Samai Payasam Recipe is a nutritious sweet millet recipe, rich in iron, calcium, protein, fiber and other nutrients. Cooking delicious millet payasam in an open pot is simple and delicious. I used milk in this recipe, but any vegan milk, such as nut, coconut, or almond milk, will taste just as delicious and extraordinary.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Little Millet / Samai Rice
  • 3/4 Cup Jaggery powder
  • 1 Cup Milk (or coconut Milk)
  • 3-4 Saffron threads
  • a pinch cardamom
  • 10 Cashew
  • 1-2 tbsp Ghee

Directions

  1. Wash and Soak millet for 20 mins.
  2. In a pan add 4 cups of water and boil it.
  3. Once it starts to boil reduce flame and cook for 10 to 15 mins till it gets mashed.
  4. Once it gets mashed finely add milk and continue to cook.
  5. Add Jaggery powder, cardamom powder, saffron threads and continue cooking for another 3 to 5 mins.
  6. Switch off the Stove.
  7. Heat ghee in a pan, roast cashews and add it to the cooked payasam.
  8. Little Millet Payasam is Ready.
  9. Serve Hot.
