Omapodi recipe | Sev recipe is an excellent diwali snack that can be made quickly and easily with only a few ingredients. Indian delicacies called sev or omapodi are made all around the country, especially during celebrations like Diwali. Omapodi is a crucial component in the mixture. We can even find omapodi in several chat dishes, such as bhel poori. Omapodi is a favourite snack of children at festivals and in the evening.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Besan / Gram flour
- 1/2 cup rice flour
- 1/2 tsp Red Chilli Powder (optional)
- 1 tsp ajwain powder
- Salt
- 2 tbsp Butter
- Groundnut Oil
Directions
- Sieve besan flour and rice flour separately and keep aside.
- In a bowl add both besan flour and rice flour with butter, red chilli powder, ajwain powder and salt.
- Add water little by little and mix the ingredients to make a smooth dough.
- It will generally be a slightly sticky dough.
- Take an omapodi press which will have a small dotted hole.
- Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.
- Put an oval shaped dough in the omapodi press.
- Press it directly in circles in hot oil.
- Fry both sides which get fried in a minute or two.
- Remove it from the flame without burning it.
- Tasty Omapodi is ready.
- When it is cooled to room temperature, break into pieces and store in air tight containers.
Variations
Can add asafetida, turmeric powder.
