Aadi Kummayam is a well-known Chettinad dish made with urad dal, moong dal and sometimes with a small amount of rice flour. Kumayam is a nutritious food that is eaten in the evening that strengthens bones and boosts immunity.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 Cup Roasted Urad dal Flour
  • 1/4 Cup Roasted Moong dal Flour
  • 1 Cup Karupatti
  • 3-4 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp Ghee

Directions

  1. Roast Urad dal and moong dal before making flour. Then sieve it and keep it ready.
  2. Heat Karupatti with 1/4 cup of water and boil it to dissolve, filter and keep ready.
  3. In a heavy bottom pan heat one spoon of ghee, add urad dal and moong dal flour and stir roast in low flame.
  4. Add 3 Cups of water, mix well, stir continuously without forming lumps.
  5. When it starts to boil add karupatti syrup and continue stirring.
  6. Small lumps may form, but they will break up and dissolve when you stir.
  7. Add ghee and sesame oil frequently in regular intervals.
  8. Add all ghee and sesame oil when it thickens and gets a nice glossy texture which leaves the sides of the pan.
  9. Switch off the flame.
  10. Healthy Aadi Kummayam is Ready to Serve.
