Ingredients
- 1 Cup Barnyard Millet / Kuthiraivali
- 1/4 Cup Moong dal
- 1 tsp Whole Black pepper
- 1 tsp Cumin Seeds
- a pinch Asafoetida
- 1 tsp Crushed Ginger
- Few Curry leaves
- 3 – 4 tbsp Ghee
- Salt
Directions
- Mix Barnyard Millet with Moong dal and wash it three to four times till water runs clear.
- Soak Barnyard Millet for 20 mins.
- Heat 5 to 6 cups of water in a pot (preferably a mud pot for the delicious taste).
- Add drained millet, moong dal to it and let it boil.
- Once it begins to boil, turn the heat down to low and cook for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the food is thoroughly cooked and mushy.
- Heat ghee in a pan, add black pepper, cumin seeds and wait till they pop, then add Asafetida, Crushed Ginger, Curry leaves and give a stir.
- Add it to the barnyard millet pot and stir well with salt.
- Mix all together.
- Let it cook for a minute and switch off the stove.
- Healthy and Creamy Barnyard Millet Ven Pongal is Ready.
- Serve Hot with Sambar / Chutney.
