Raw Onion Chutney | Pacha Vengaya Chutney Recipe is a quick, spicy, and hot chutney that can be made in a matter of seconds. This dish simply requires blending and tempering to prepare, and it pairs perfectly with soft idli, dosa, Chettinad Vellai paniyaram, and adai. Can optionally add a little jaggery.

Ingredients

  • 10 – 15 Small Onion / Shallot
  • 3-4 Red chilli
  • 1 Garlic Clove
  • Amla Size Roasted Tamarind
  • 2 tbsp Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1 tbsp Urad dal
  • a pinch Asafetida
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Peel small onions and keep them ready.
  2. In a blender add small onions, red chilli, garlic, Roasted tamarind and salt.
  3. Blend it smoothly without water.
  4. Transfer it to a bowl.
  5. Heat sesame oil in a pan, temper with mustard seeds, urad and wait till it turns golden.
  6. Add asafetida and Curry leaves.
  7. Pour it over the chutney.
  8. Serve fresh with idli, dosa, Chettinad Vellai Paniyaram, Adai etc.
