Mappillai Samba Sweet Appam | Red rice recipe is a traditional, flavorful, and healthful recipe. This traditional red rice dish includes the process of soaking, grinding, and frying. One of the well-known traditional red rices from Tamil Nadu, Mappillai Samba also lowers blood sugar levels and promotes child birth.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Mappillai Samba Rice
- 3 tbsp Urad dal
- 1 Cup Jaggery
- 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut
- 1 Cardamom
- Oil
Directions
- Combine urad dal and Mappillai Samba rice, wash and soak for four hours.
- Jaggery should be diluted, melted with 1/4 cup of water, then purified.
- Add drained mappillai samba rice, urad dal, cardamom, and grated coconut to a mixer after four hours, then blend the ingredients into a smooth, fine batter with jaggery water.
- Batter should be a little thicker than the dosa consistency.
- For frying appam, heat oil in a kadai with a flat bottom.
- Reduce flame to low medium once oil is warmed.
- After thoroughly combining the batter, spoon a ladle full of batter into the centre of the oil.
- Continue pouring boiling oil over it, until the appam rises and floats on top of the oil.
- After less than a minute, flip it upside down and cook it for an additional 20 to 30 seconds.
- Remove it from the oil once it is soft and cooked well.
- Repeat the process till the batter gets over one by one.
- Healthy and Tasty Mappillai Samba Sweet Appam is Ready.
- Serve hot.
