Sigappu Aval Kolukattai | Red Flakes Recipe is a healthy, quick and tasty snacks recipe. This recipe can be quickly prepared as evening snacks or even for breakfast in the morning. Although I used Mappillai Samba aval in this red flakes kolukattai recipe, you can use any red aval to make it to your preference.

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Red Aval
  • 1/4 Cup Grated Coconut
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • 1 tbsp Broken Cashew
  • 2 Green Chilli (optional)
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp Oil

Directions

  1. Roast Red Aval in a pan till it gets heat or just for a minute or two.
  2. Transfer it to cool.
  3. Grind it coarsely in a mixie and keep it aside.
  4. In a pan heat oil, add mustard and let it splutter.
  5. Then add cumin seeds, urad dal, asafetida and wait for urad dal to turn golden.
  6. Add cashew, let it get roasted followed by green chilli and curry leaves.
  7. Give a stir and add coarse red aval.
  8. Add one cup of water with salt and mix well without lumps.
  9. Keep stirring as it gets thicker soon.
  10. Once it gets thick add grated coconut and switch off the stove.
  11. Mix well.
  12. Let it get cool to hold in your hands.
  13. Apply a little oil in your hands and make kolukattai shape with all the mixture.
  14. Steam it in a steamer for 5 minutes.
  15. Red Aval Kozhukattai is Ready.
  16. Serve hot with any Chutney.
