Curry Leaves Rice | Karuveppilai Sadam Recipe is a healthy and easy variety rice recipe rich in Iron and Vitamin C. Karuveppilai Sadam is prepared using very few ingredients. You can use any rice of your choice in place of the traditional rice kichili samba that I used in this dish. In addition, I used lemon juice rather than tamarind for the sour flavour.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Kichili Samba Rice
  • 1 Cup Curry leaves
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1 tbsp Urad dal
  • a small piece asafetida
  • 1 tbsp Peanuts
  • 3 – 5 Red Chilli
  • 1/2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • Sesame Oil
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Wash, Soak Kichili Samba Rice for 20 mins and cook it with 1 cup of water.
  2. Once cooked add a spoon of Sesame oil mix gently and spread it on a plate to cool.
  3. Heat a little oil in a pan, add red chilli and curry leaves.
  4. Saute for a few minutes.
  5. Transfer it to plates to cool.
  6. Grind it to a paste.
  7. In a pan heat 3 spoons of sesame oil, add mustard seeds, let it splutter.
  8. Then add Urad dal, peanuts and saute till it gets roasted, add asafetida, salt.
  9. Add the curry leaves mixture and just stir.
  10. Switch off the Stove, add rice, lemon juice and gently mix everything well.
