Ellu Podi Recipe | Sesame Seeds Powder is a nutritious, flavorful and delicious chutney powder. Sesame seeds powder is a great side dish to South Indian breakfast recipes like idli, dosa, adai etc. To make this recipe healthier, I substitute black gram for urad dal. Instead of black gram, you can instead use urad dal.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup Black gram / Black split urad dal
- 3/4 cup black sesame seeds
- 5 nos red chillies
- 3-4 nos kashmiri chilli
- a sprig curry leaves
- 1-2 Garlic Clove (optional)
- 1 pinch asafoetida
- salt
Directions
- Take dust free clean black gram, dry roast it till we get a nice roasted flavour.
- Add both red chilli and stir for a minute.
- Then add black sesame seeds and roast in low flame till it pops.
- Transfer them to a plate.
- Add Crushed garlic clove, Curry leaves and roast till it gets crisp.
- Then Add salt and asafetida with curry leaves and immediately Switch off the flame.
- Let it cool.
- Grind it well as you prefer, like slightly coarse or fine powder.
- Tasty and flavorful Ellu podi | Sesame seeds powder is ready.
- Store it in an airtight container.
- To use Take one spoon of Ellu Podi and mix it with pure cold pressed gingelly oil and serve with hot idli / dosai.
