Tiffin Sambar Recipe | Moong Dal Sambar | Pasi Paruppu Sambar is a simple, plain sambar recipe which goes well with breakfast items like idli, dosa, and pongal. I haven’t included any veggies in this simple and fast tiffin sambar dish, but we may certainly add potatoes or brinjal.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Moong Dal
  • 1/2 Cup Shallot / Small Onion
  • 1 Tomato
  • 3 Green Chilli
  • 1 tsp Sambar Powder
  • a pinch turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp asafoetida
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1/2 tsp Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 tsp Urad dal
  • 2 Red Chilli
  • Salt
  • Oil

Directions

  1. Wash, soak moong dal for 10 mins.
  2. Cook moong dal with turmeric powder, asafetida well till it gets mashed.
  3. Heat Oil in a pan, temper mustard seeds, urad dal and wait till they splutter.
  4. Add red chilli, green chilli, curry leaves, chopped onions and saute for a while.
  5. Then add tomato and saute till it gets soft.
  6. Add sambar powder, salt with a cup of water and let it boil.
  7. When it starts to boil, add cooked moong dal and let it boil for a few more minutes on medium flame.
  8. Healthy Moong dal Sambar is Ready.
  9. Serve hot with idli, dosa and pongal.
