Tomato Rasam Recipe | Thakkali Rasam is a quick and flavorful rasam that is made with common household items. The primary components are toor dal water, spice powder, tomato and a little tamarind. With the addition of pepper and cumin powder, rasam facilitates easy digestion and boosts our immunity and strength.

Tomato Rasam

Ingredients

  • 1 or 2 Tomato
  • 1/4 Cup Toor dal water
  • Amla Size Tamarind
  • 1/4 tsp Turmeric powder
  • a pinch asafetida
  • 1 tbsp Cumin Pepper Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Coriander Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Sambar Powder
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1 green chilli
  • Ghee
  • Salt

Directions

  1. To make toor dal water, cook the toor dal until it is mushy, add a cup of water, whisk it thoroughly, and then let it aside for five minutes. After that, filter the top portion and use it to make rasam; the bottom portion is used to make sambar.
  2. Soak tamarind in water and extract it pulp.
  3. Fine chop tomato, slit green chilli.
  4. In a bowl add toor dal water, tamarind extract. sambar powder and corinader powder, mix them well and keep ready.
  5. Add a little water to a pot along with the tomato, green chilli, turmeric, and salt, and bring it to a boil.
  6. Once it has boiled and been thoroughly cooked, add the tamarind toor dal mixture with asafoetida and continue to boil it till the raw tamarind smell has gone.
  7. Finally, add the pepper, cumin powder, and immediately turn off the stove.
  8. To temper, heat ghee in a pan, add mustard seeds, wait till it splutter, then add cumin seeds, curry leaves and add it to the prepared rasam.
  9. Garnish with coriander leaves and close it for a while with a lid.
  10. Tomato Rasam is Ready.
  11. Serve hot with hot rice and vegetables.
