Vazhakkai Podimas Recipe is a simple, tasty and easy recipe that goes well with simple lunches like rasam, sambar rice. In this recipe I have added steamed and shredded valakkai.

Ingredients

  • 1 Vazhakkai
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard
  • 1/4 tsp Urad dal
  • a pinch Asafoetida
  • Few Curry leaves
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • Salt
  • Oil

To crush coarsely

  • 1 Red Chilli
  • 1 Green Chilli
  • a inch Ginger
  • 1 tbsp Grated Coconut

Directions

  1. Wash Vazhakkai and steam it with skin till it gets cooked well but not mushy.
  2. Once done, peel the skin and shred the valakkai.
  3. Add red chilli, green chilli, ginger and coconut, just crush them well or coarsely grind them and take.
  4. Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, add urad dal, curry leaves, asafetida.
  5. Then add vazhakkai with the crushed masala and mix all well with salt.
  6. Continue saute for a while in low flame till the raw smell disappears.
  7. Switch off the stove.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves and add lemon juice once it gets warm which is optional.
  9. Serve with hot rice.
