Ingredients

  • 2 Cup Attur Kichili Samba Rice
  • 3/4 Cup Moong dal
  • 1 – 2 Cup Cow Milk
  • 3 Cup Jaggery
  • 15 Cashew
  • 10 Dry grapes
  • a pinch Jathikkai / nutmeg
  • a pinch edible camphor
  • 1/2 Cup Grated Coconut (Optional)
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1/2 Cup Cow Ghee

Directions

  1. Dry roast moong dal just till it gets heat well.
  2. In a new earthen pot or bronze pot, draw a simple kolam with rice flour and keep it ready.
  3. Wash and Soak Attur Kichili Samba Rice for 20 to 30 mins.
  4. In a pan add ghee and Roast cashews, dry grapes and keep it ready.
  5. Add some rice flour into the pot and boil it with one or two cups of milk and 5 cups of water.
  6. Once it starts boiling, add drained Attur Kichili Samba Rice and moong dal.
  7. Let it boil to cook.
  8. Reduce flame once it starts to boil and stir occasionally.
  9. Add the powdered jaggery once the rice and moong dal are well cooked and the water has been absorbed and maintain low heat.
  10. Stir without get it burn at the bottom.
  11. Add ghee in-between little by little and cook well.
  12. Then add nutmeg powder, edible camphor, cardamom powder, roasted cashews, roasted raisins, grated coconut and mix well.
  13. Add remaining ghee and mix well in low flame.
  14. After a few minutes switch off the stove.
  15. Delicious Sweet Pongal Recipe is Ready.
