Aval Upma Recipe | Poha Upma is an easy and quick meal prepared with Rice flakes, often known as flattened rice. There are thick and thin rice flakes available in the market; nevertheless, it is always preferable to utilise thick flakes. The traditional red rice flakes can also be used in place of one of the traditional rice white flakes in this recipe. This simple, healthful, and delicious dish just requires soaking rice flakes for 10 to 20 minutes. Flakes are a satisfying, readily digestible snack.
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Aval / Poha / Flakes
- 5-7 Shallot / Small Onion
- 1 Tomato
- 1 Green Chilli
- 1/4 tsp Chilli powder
- a pinch turmeric powder
- Few Curry leaves
- 1/4 Mustard Seeds
- 1/2 Urad dal
- Oil
- Salt
Directions
- Quick rinse the aval for two times, drain the water (if you are using thick aval then soak with 1/4 Cup of water for 15 mins) and keep it aside.
- Chop onions, tomato and slit green chilli.
- Heat oil in a kadai, splutter mustard seeds, add urad dal and wait till it turns golden.
- Then add onion, curry leaves, green chilli and saute for a while till onions get translucent.
- Add tomato, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and saute till it gets soft.
- Once done, add washed / soaked aval, give a stir for a minute or two.
- Switch off the stove.
