Tomato Rice | Seeraga Samba Recipe is a delicious thakkali sadam recipe with a natural aromatic rice. I used chopped tomatoes in this recipe, but you could also use ground tomatoes. Tomato-Rice-Thakkali-Sadam

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Seeraga Samba Rice
  • 4-5 Tomato
  • 1 Onion
  • 2 Green Chilli
  • 3-4 Garlic Cloves
  • 1 tsp Chilli Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Fennel seeds
  • a pinch Turmeric Powder
  • Few Curry leaves
  • 1 small stick Cinnamon
  • 2 Clove
  • Few Coriander leaves
  • Oil
  • Ghee
  • Salt

Directions

  1. Wash and Soak Seeraga Samba rice for 10 mins.
  2. Heat oil in a pot (preferably mud pot) add cinnamon, clove, fennel seeds and wait till it sizzles.
  3. Add crushed garlic, sliced onion, slit green chilli, curry leaves and saute well.
  4. Once onion gets translucent add chopped tomato and saute till it gets soft.
  5. Add chilli powder, turmeric powder, salt and saute for a while.
  6. Drain rice and add it with 2 cups of water.
  7. Cook till it gets cooked well by just reducing the flame to medium when it starts boiling.
  8. When the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked well, switch off the stove, add coriander leaves, ghee and leave it closed with a lid for 15 mins.
  9. Add little fennel seeds powder at the end and gently mix well which is optional and enhances flavour.
  10. Tasty and Delicious Tomato Rice is Ready to Serve.
